Hello Peter,

Galli was becoming known in my neck of the woods in the early '80s, when I working at an LBS. None of my customers splurged for a complete Galli group, but I had a few weight weenies who upgraded to the brakes for the titanium bits, or some of the other parts because they liked the cool colors. The roller-bearing headset was seen as a cool upgrade (rebadged Stronglight A9?).

I somehow met a Galli rep who lived and had an office in my home town (fabulous Fort Lee, NJ)---the name Giorgio Gramaglia comes to mind, but who knows. I can't remember if he was an intrepid Galli home office employee establishing a beachhead, or a local Italian hired by Galli, but he carried no other product lines and had no other employees. He tried to convince me to quit my LBS job and rep for him, but I was far too engrossed with Japanese product to chuck it all for an Italian company with seemingly little history or prospects.

Whoever they were, they seemed to be an actual Italian company. All their catalogs and literature had Italian addresses, and Giorgio reported to an Italian home office. They seemed to fade away from the US market by '84 or '85.

My Galli knowledge base is now tapped dry.....

Cheers,
