Strawberry style of internal lugged wishbone seat stay attachment in the early 80s was a wonderful to behold. HOWEVER it was a bit flexable. When I got my new Strawberry in the early 80's I built it up and rode it a bit to check it out. Every thing worked fine but I had not gone up a steep hill that required getting off the saddle and pushing hard. Well I rode it to work the next day and the route to work included three short over 16% hills one after another. First hill I got off the saddle in the proper gear and dug in. Well the frame flexed causing the gearing to down shift to a lower gear and I did have the strength to keep my speed up. So I just fell over. Lucky I fell on to some nice green grass. To solve the problem I went to index bar ends shiffters and they were capable of taking up the slop in the gear cable without downshiffting. For pictures of my Stwawberry email me. Rides great. I have been over 12,000 feet in it. All without the dreaded down shift. In the mid 70's and all sun Charles Nighbor Walnut Creek, CA
