When I was growing up, the term "enameling" actually meant something like glass-firing onto a metal base...in effect fusing the glass to the metal substrate. A familiar type of "enameling" with this definition would be "cloisonne."
In getting my Hetchins flat-etched-plated head badge "refinished" then, does anyone know, were these simply painted or was the finish firefinished onto the metal plate?
