Subject: [CR]5 Large steel road frames (58-61cm) for sale (long!)

#1: 60cm Peugeot UO-8 Frame & Fork $25 CDN/$20 US OBO. The ubiquitous mid 70’s bike boom bike that we all new and loved. 60 cm frame (c-t) metallic green in really good shape only minor bits of rust spotting the paint here and there. Decals in great shape. Frame with fork, French threaded headset, French threaded BB (cottered) and Simplex DT shifters included.

Great if you’ve a fondness for old French bikes or perhaps if you have a complete UO-8 that’s too large (or small) or isn’t in the metallic green you ’ve always lusted after, or is suffering from some other short coming.

Pics available, $25 CDN/$20 US OBO

#2: 58cm circa 1972 Manufrance Championnat road frame/fork $80 CDN/$55 US OBO. Seat tube 58 cm c-t, top tube 57 cm c-c. Main frame tubes of Reynolds 531, includes the original Stronglight French threaded headset, Stronglight French threaded cotterless BB and capped steel seatpost. Fork has a flat crown and half chromed legs. Eyelets for fenders front and rear. Excellent for use as a fixed gear bike as it has no braze-ons what so ever and nice long forged Simplex horizontal dropouts. Colour is a metallic copper that has seen better days, but the whole frame has been clear coated and has red reflective tape down the back of the seat stays.

This is a really nice frame (it was a tad too large for me) that rides well, has huge tire clearance and a comfortable ride. It was a direct competitor to the Peugeot PR10-L (one down from the top of the line PX-10), originally sporting Stronglight cranks, Belri bars and stem, Simplex derailleurs and Normandy/Mavic wheels. Any excellent candidate for a fun French around the town bike.

Pics available. $80 CDN/$55 US OBO.

#3: 61.5cm circa 1980 Gardin road racing frame and fork $175 CDN/$120 US OBO. Seat tube 61.5 cm c-t, top tube 59 cm c-c. Nicely lugged steel frame (likely Columbus SL and SP mix) with full chrome rear stays, windowed short point chrome head lugs and full chrome front fork. Full sloping fork crown with F Gardin panto’d in the tops. Campagnolo dropouts front and rear, with the rear being the short 1010A drilled for a two hole Campagnolo Porta Catena. Braze-ons include three top tube cable guides, DT shifter bosses, a single set of DT WB bosses rear derailleur cable stop on the chainstay and a chain hanger on the seat stay. Under BB cable guides and a Cinelli BB shell with slot cut-outs. Takes a 27.2mm seatpost and an Italian threaded BB and headset.

Paint is a four colour pearl white (majority of the frame) with yellow bright pink and turquoise, yellow accents in the lug windows and pantographing. Paint is definitely not original but is in good shape with only a few minor chips here and there. One of the more interesting things about this frame is that Gardin is engraved in the side of the top tube and in the front of the head tube, something I’ve never seen before. Rear end is spaced at 126mm and could easily be spread to 130 if need be. This frame and fork also have generous tire clearances (for 32 or 35c tires) and could make a great poor road racer or trainer for someone much larger than me. A nicely made Italian frame for those that enjoy the ride of steel.

$175 CDN/$120 US OBO, pics available.

#4: 59 cm circa 1978 Marinoni Special road frame and fork $225 CDN/$155 US OBO. Vintage Marinoni Special road racing frame and matching fork. Hand made in Quebec (the fork crown sports a Fleur de Lys and the word QUEBEC pantographed into them, not the usual Maple leaf and MARINONI, I’m beginning to wonder if this frame was made for someone on the Quebec Provincial team or something!) The frame measures 59 cm c-t for the seat tube and the top tube measures 57 cm c-c. Rear spacing is 120 mm. Good clearance for larger (32 or 35c) tires. The brake bridge and fork are drilled for nutted callipers not recessed Allen fittings.

The frame weighs 2046 grams. The fork weighs 758 grams. Given the other Marinoni frames that I have seen from this era (in this size) I suspect that the frame is constructed from Columbus SP tubing, but may be blended with SL tubes as well. Seat post size is 27.2 mm and the BB threading is Italian. Rear drop-outs are Campagnolo 1010 and include a pair of the long Campagnolo drop-out screws (although they are absent from the photos).

I believe that Marinoni repainted this frame and fork sometime in the mid 80 ’s. The paint is generally good but has a good number of nicks and scratches (but no dents or dings!), and the Marinoni decal on the seat tube has suffered a long scratch, and an attempt has been made to touch this scratch up, not perfect but not bad either. Some of the images show a Campagnolo SR headset, BB, and seat binder bolt, these items are NOT included. They have gone on to another project. Please make sure to review all 18 of the full sized images (on the ImageStation site linked below). Hopefully the overall condition is clear from the photos, if not please don’t hesitate to ask for any more details or clarifying detail images, and hopefully I haven't forgotten anything. Please let me know if you need any more info, I’ll be more than happy to oblige.

$225 CDN/$155 US OBO.

#5: 1983 60cm Marinoni Special road frame, fork and Campag SR headset $450 CDN/$310 US OBO. I bought this as a complete bike a while back, knowing full well it was too big for me, but it was just too gorgeous to pass up. Metallic silver with black Marinoni decals with a fine gold outline. Really pretty. The paint and decals on this frame are the best I’ve ever seen on a 20 yr old bike. One tiny (1mm) nick in the paint on the inside of the chainstay at the chain hanger (you’d have had to look long and hard to have found it), and a tiny crunch of one of the legs of the second N in Marinoni on the seat tube. Frankly this bike looks as NOS as any frame I’ve ever seen and if I hadn’t seen it as a complete bike I’d be hard pressed to determine that it had ever been built or ridden.

Anyway, the details; seat tube 60cm c-t, top tube 57cm c-c, Columbus SP tubes for a solid ride, nicely thinned Bocama long point lugs with a red Maple leaf in the bottom head tube lug. Full chrome fork with a semi-sloping fork crown, a Maple leaf and Marinoni in the tops. Campagnolo dropouts front and rear. Script style Marinoni in the tops of the seatstay caps. Chrome drive side chainstay. Braze-ons; three TT cable guides, DT shifter bosses, a single set of WB bosses, FD hanger, RD cable stop and chain hanger. Takes a 27.2mm seatpost, BB is Italian threaded. M cut-out in the BB shell and under BB cable guides. 126mm rear spacing and good clearance for 28 or 32c tires.

Includes a perfect installed Campagnolo Super Record headset.
