I lived in Japan for about 5 years, just after the economic "bubble" was punctured. Rumour had it that a French restaurant imported some good cheap table wines and offered them for the yen equivalent of about $15.00. At that price they got no buyers. So the owner raised the price to about $100.00 and it sold like hot crepes!

In a land of Louis Vuitton bags and Armanni suits, imported status is the status quo. Couple that with the fact that Rene Herse exhibited at a Tokyo bike show in the early 60s and you have the beginnings of a French cult bike following. Just my humble opinion. Scott-san in St. Paul, MN
