Subject: [CR]Le Cirque du Cyclisme (late report)

I just got back home today (after extending my trip to see my parents), so I apologize for the late report.

First, I have to say this was an amazing event. I have been with businesses that have organized various types of events. That a small shop in Greensboro NC can organize a world-class event like this boggles the mind. My hat is off.

I was just at the Cirque on Sunday. I did the 32-miler in the morning (on the pearl 1983 Holdsworth Professional). I stuck with the "racers" after most of the other vintage riders had wisely decided on a more leisurely pace. Finally, I decided to drop off the back on a hill. But suddenly I was moving faster up the hill, even though I wasn't pedaling! There was some nut in a t-shirt and Bermuda shorts pushing me up the hill, and accelerating! I told him to let me go, but he kept pushing! What a nut! Yeah, I found out later it was Grant Peterson. Well, there's a story I can keep for the rest of my life.

The show was mind-boggling as well. It is just a big blur now. But I got a nice set of Mafac brakes (from Harvery Sachs, I think) and some NOS levers. All I need now is the hoods with the adjusters.

What an interesting bunch of characters. The last beatnik I had seen prior to the show was Maynard on the Dobie Gillis show. Then I saw e-Richie. Took me back to my days in Greenwich Village.

Did Aldo actually shift gears on that Bianchi during the ride? I still have trouble with friction shifters.

Anyway, a genuine fun experience, to which I will happily return. Congratulations to Dale and his gang.
