Subject: [CR]re: Claud Butler, decal style for c1963 frame

Hi,

I am in the process of renovating my old CB frame, of which the frame and late forks (sadly damaged beyond repair and replaced with 1980s CB forks) have been in the family since around 1973. My father aquired the frame and forks (unbuilt) from a friend, and has estimated the frame build date to be around 1963. Sadly it was aquired without any components, and without its original paintwork. The frame number has disintegrated and is unreadable.

There are two things I am trying to find out, the first one being the most important: 1. What lettering style would have been used for the "Claud Butler" name on the down tube? As far as I can tell, there's the blocky sort and the curly/script type. 2. What can I look for on the frame to help me determine what model my bike is? I've had a look at this site: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/nkilgariff/ClaudButler.htm but its still difficult to pick out distinguishing features to place the model type.

Depending on the outcome of point 2, it would also be nice to know what kind of paint job this model would have had.

If it helps, I could take some digital photos of the frame, and post a link to them to this list?

I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Regards,

Bill Roberts
