Easy answer. Remain with the bike. Arrange for family to bring dinner and/or breakfast to you for as long as it takes for owner to arrive. Introduce self to owner, perhaps hand them a business card. Ask for history of how long he/she has had bike. If at all possible, have camera ready to photograph original owner with bike. Then explain how much you would like to have a nice old bike like that and would they like to trade it for a new bike???
