Ann, It wouldn't be very practical to tell you to keep your bike in a dark closet snd only ride it at night while wearing latex gloves, but this would greatly keep the brake hoods looking new. As has been mentioned, sunlight and sweat, and constantly squeezing the lil' darlings are to their detriment. If you park in the sunshine, like when you are in having beers (or is it bourbon mint julips in GA?), throw something over the hoods and seat to keep from baking them. After that, the best thing is not to worry about it, just appreciate how nicely they are aging.
