Mmmmm, this kinda fits in (IMHO - for what that is worth) with the "hot rodding" that got done in back then. Some of it makes us think "oh why did they ruin this" - like finding an old bike with the teeth filed off the drop outs and a hanger added for a derailleur. Or some special old frame that someone added cable routing braze ons to. Some of the hot rodding that Peter Johnson did to various components might get a frown in more purist company (more purist than us?).

But hey, people were trying to make stuff look better, work better and add some individuality. It was part of the cycling culture that I remember. Sure NOS/OEM/Museum quality preservation is wonderful to find (John Barron's Masi unwrapping!) but part of the charm of vintage bikes for me, is the fact that I can ride 'em too, and immerse myself in nostalgia.

If that seat had the Montelatici diamonds cut into it, I'd be on it in a flash!

Oh - and speaking of Montelatici, I'm looking for a proper era 70s seat in white.... Any ideas? Must be in good condition...
