Subject: [CR]Colnago Copies?

Hi, I have recently bought a Colnago Frame via an on line auction. It had been professionally refinished and was bought for a fair price.

I have built the bike up with a Campy Group Set it looks great and it rides beautifully.

On visiting one of our local bike stores the owner has suggested that it might not be a genuine frame but a copy!

This is obviously very worrying, can anyone help by advising how you can tell the difference?

For information: The front and rear drop outs are stamped brevia Colnago The rear right hand drop out has the number 36042 stamped on it. The top of the fork blades are stamped Colnago The sloping fork shoulders are stamped with the cloverleaf The rear of the head lug is stamped with the cloverleaf emblem Rear brake cable routing is through the top tube starts underneath and exits through to at rear The top of the bottom bracket shell has 2 webs stamped with the cloverleaf emblem The underside of the bottom bracket shell has a cutaway in it and has Colnago stamped into it. The bottom bracket shell is stamped with the number 212 The top of the rear stays are stamped with the cloverleaf emblem The rear brake mounting stay is stamped with the cloverleaf.

I could email photos of specific parts of the bike if that would help.

Thank you in advance for any help or advice you can give.

Kind regards,

Stephen
