Dave, unless you have some very rough winter storage conditions, you probably just have a bent large ring, not a bent spider. (Does the small ring also wobble when you sight down on the spinning rings, using the derailleur cage as a guide? Also, make sure the bb is properly adjusted before you make adjustments.) If you do determine its just the large ring, take a crescent wrench, not a mallet, and gently bend the ring back into shape. Bicycle Research made a great tool for doing this if the adjustable wrench isn't to your liking. I've done this repair on my mountain bikes dozens of times over the years with
much success.
