There's an ad for Merlin, "the No-Trouble Machines," in the Aug 31, 1934 "Cycling." It lists an address: Merlin Tyre Co., 219, Goswell Rd., London E.C.1. It advertises cycles, tandems, frames, and accessories and tyres. "Merlin's for Quality." In the same issue but off topic then and now is the Grubb "Kingston" recumbent! (with sprung Brooks saddle and SA 3sp at GBP14-14)

PS NB the address: "Go-swell" sounds like a nifty name for a 30s American bike: I can see the Bruce McCall ad (on the last page of the New Yorker, no doubt): "Those Greenpernt bullies can't catch me when I'm on my new Go-swell!"

Hello All I have just picked up three Merlins built in London. These came to me from the original owner from new. One is 1935 (built for grass track) and the other two are1938 and 47 and all raced. The 1947 is in lovely original condition and uses 531DB tubing and is the I'Internationle model of exceptional quality. All three have the special merlin front dropout, which is so simple but very effective Pics available soon if any one would like to see it Cheers Pete Paine Watford
