Subject: [CR]Untimely passing of our friend, Dave Staub

I was shocked and sad after just now reading Brian's post from yesterday.

I met Dave at a Rose Bowl ride a few months ago. We shared some memories about the bike industry in the 70's when I worked for Cycles Peugeot. Dave filled me in on the current whereabouts of people we both knew. I never made Dave's acquaintance back in those days but we sure knew a lot of the same folks. I really enjoyed speaking with him.

After the ride, my son and I were slow in loading up our bikes. The only person left besides us was Dave. On trying to start the car, I found that the battery had chosen that spot to fail. Dave had jumpers and graciously stayed and helped us get going. Nice guy.

The comments about the aging of this group are right on. My bikes are going to my son. And finishing my time here while on my bike sounds better than most other options. To make the transition from this life to the next while doing something you love, well...that would be my choice if one was offered to me.

Rest in peace, Dave.
