Thanks for the information and photos.

Looks like the der in question in an 84 because it has the flat back pivot plate and the 84 spring location. Never noticed the difference before so it was interesting to see it after your comment got me to take a closer look at my ders than I ever have. I've been on N. Record for a long time but never noticed this before.

I have other 84 N. Records that say "84" on them near the cable entry and have the black plastic sleeves on the adjustment screws. This blank 84 der in question, however, has naked spings--although there may be a black plastic coating on the springs themselves. These open springs made me think it was an early der intially, because with those springs it looked like my various 70s N. Record ders. Now it looks pretty different to me.

--Why would this 84 have no pat. date stamp and no plastic sleeves while my other 84 N. Records have both? --Why do you say the 84 is a retro deraillure? Did they end production and then start up again with remanufactured tooling? Why did they do a retro version? Did they use S. Record rear pivot plates? --Why do you say that the retro 84 is not worth discussing? Is it because it technically goes out of the '83 CR time limit? Or is it because it is not period correct on the most desirable collectibles from the 70s and before? Is it less well made in some way? Now that I see the difference, the flat rear pivot plate looks less substantial than the curved stamped ones on my 70s N. Records.

Thanks for the knowledge, Mitch Harris Utah Co. UT
