Thomas, Thank you for the welcome and I shall attempt to give what information I can recall. AENDE cycles was in Mansfield and a one man operation in Alan Braithwait. He specialized in lightweight TT frames and it seems was in business until the late 90s. My frame is typical of his stylings of the 70s with drilled out steertube, lugs and the Campag vertical dropouts were thinned, profiled and also drilled out. This is a road bike but his TT bikes were spectacular with drilling and slots everywhere. They also had the mandatory fag paper clearance and ultra short wheelbase. Alan was typical of many UK builders that don't get much press overseas. Custom frames were the norm and an off the peg frame would only be suitable for a hack bike or if you had a sponsors bike. The more obscure builders were the most desirable to get the latest and fastest that no one else had. We would go to London to Condor or Holdsworth and although you could get a custom frame from them they were much too well known for my mates and myself. This is bringing back lots of memories of going to all the local builders over the years and just hanging out wasting their time. I remember skipping school once and headed for Witcomb cycles. One of my teammates knew Barry and asked if he had and opening for an apprentice. He was willing to hire me but had just brought someone on from the US and I would have to wait for an opening. I have always wondered who that could have been. My parents moved to the US shortly after that and I reluctantly went with them. Thanks for the enquiry and if I can answer anything else I shall try.
