"..... these are for a rider.. "
"second thing i need is a set of gum rubber brake hoods for the campy brakes on my latest golden oldie....... i have no opinion as to whether or not i should buy campy hoods or go with the decidedly cheaper abiet perfectly functional knock offs."

Hiya Shel, While it's nice to have the bike set up with all the correct stuff, I always make exceptions for items that are going to wear out quickly. This is usually limited to chains, freewheels, chainrings and such, I've broadened the rule to include brake hoods, and sometimes even the pedals. I'm all in favor of using the generic Campy hood knock-offs for a bike that's going to get ridden. For pedals, you might consider using the MKS pedals that are Campy copies. They work fine, and you'll avoid any bad feelings the next time you grind up a pedal in a turn. :-) They are cheap enough that you can use them while continuing to search out a good deal on real Campy pedals. Heck, I just enjoyed a great 70 mile ride on my old Raleigh Team bike, equipped with these exact parts, and I sure didn't notice that they weren't the correct Campy parts.
cheers,
