Check out Frank Berto"s THE DANCING CHAIN. A book detailing the history of the derailleur. Campy's was not the first parallelogram, but a copy of another Italian (if I remember correctly) unit. Simplex's first parallelogram was the Record 60, a chrome stamped steel unit that essentially was the design forerunner of the first Prestige.
