Gary Chottiner asks: Does anyone out there have a 23.35 mm thread diameter Stronglight crank puller for sale or know where I can get one?=A0 According to the Sheldon = Brown / Harris Cyclery web site, the Stronglight pre-1982 cotter[less] cranks were = the only ones to use this size; most cranks use a 22 mm thread while TA used = a 23 mm puller for some of their cranks.
There is a Stein puller available for about $50 but I'll go into my department's machine shop and make my own before I pay that much. <snip>
We take you back to 1963, when yours truly, having had his beloved Ted Williams Sport Racing ripped off, goes out and buys a really super all-campy Avanti for $200, blowing the budget but good. So, in he goes to the machine shop (I was a student intern at Bureau of Standards in DC) and make my own puller. Fits well. Of course, it was made from aluminum hex stock that was lying around. Just between you and me, I'm glad I was able to afford a steel puller (Campy) before I had to use that puppy. Although it has always struck me as dumb that the expensive part (crank arm, hub) is much more likely to get its thread mucked than the cheap mate (crank puller, fw, respectively).
