Subject: [CR]Forget Sugino Mity - Melt Forged ??

Here are two questions of historical interest:

1. I remember hearing about some cranks in the 1970's that were lower cost "melt forged" cranks. In fact, I think the sugino mighty series might have used this production technique.

What is melt-forging and is it still used?

2. In the 1960's and early 1970's high flange hubs were wildly popular on most types of road bicycles. The only place you would not find them is on the lightest possible racing bicycles.

why were HF hubs so popular, and why did they go out of style?
