I thought the track HS was actually a Record Pista. This was distinguished by a much lower stack height than the Record Road. According to Sutherland's recently discussed 3rd Edition (1980), "Record Strada" was 39.1 mm stack height, "Record Pista" was 33.7. The Pista also used 5/32" balls versus 3/16". I think maybe the Pista balls were loose rather than caged.

When one stupidly cut a fork too short by 5mm, one bought a Pista HS to replace the Strada. By the way. Tange still makes a steel HS called the Passage that is nearly identical to the old Record Pista, including the very short stack height. And it's cheap too, unlike the old Campy.
