IN response to Nick Z's complaint about a squeaking Regina Oro chain, Stuart Garfield suggested:

Try soaking the chain in hot wax. This should solve the squeak issue as well as quiet the drive train.

---------------- this may be quite appropriate for some vintage bikes, "wall queens" in particular, but I do have some reservations from my own experience trying it a few decades ago. I used straight "Gulf" paraffin blocks, carefully melted, and a very clean chain. In cold weather (Cleveland) there were two problems: it shed flakes of white paraffin (duh!), and the chain forgot to bend while going around the cogs. Skip-to-my-Lou or worse.

But, maybe the stupidity was just thinking that I could ride in those conditions...
