I had an Astra at about that time (mid to late 60's). Someone on the list said they were made by or related to Motobecane. Dave Tesch, a Masi builder, (built my GC) and once listmember said he missed his too. Others seem to remember them fondly. Mine was either French or Belgium made and I think about $59 also.Might have had Weinman concave rims, maybe Weinman brakes too I think.I bought it in a Hi Gear (like Western Auto) as a teen. Recognized it as a good deal. It had a burnt gold paint color and nice lively ride (Disclaimer: But then I weighed only 68 in 9th grade so they called me "Gone with the Wind".)

Best Wishes, Mark Cutrufelli Laurel,MD

Morgan: This bike should be worth a minimum of $12-1500.00 complete NOS in box with Campag Nuevo Record. The Schwinn catalogue in 1972 listed the center pull brakes as "schwinn approved" with Campag Nuevo Record brakes available as an option at additional cost. I've lost the catalogue, so I don't have an exact extra cost figure. NOS Raleigh Pros from the early 70s with complete Nuevo Record group out of box were selling for about $1700 from Bicycle Classics, and Vandals Bike Shop in New Bedford, Mass as recently as a few years ago. I almost purchased my first Paramount in 1968 for $300, but opted for a French Astra for $250. The Astra was a gorgious, well made cycle, and $50.00 was a lot of money is 1968. I was making $40.00 per week. Hetchinspete., Boston, Mass
