HISTORY OF SHIMANO . . . published 1975 . . . 96 pages . . . Hard bound
volume in all-white paper jacket, plus it slides into an all-white heavy
cardboard slip-cover. In 1975 Shimano celebrated its 10th year of
successful sales in the USA by publishing a limited edition of this
?coffee table? style display book. If you are a ?bicycle aficionado? then
you cannot be satisfied with only knowing about the products; you also
suffer from the compulsion to know who made them and how they evolved
into present day technology. Shimano?s manufacturing history predates
W.W.II. The war destroyed about 1/3rd of their factory facilities. This
is a story of a company which literally rose from the ashes and became,
not just the world?s largest producer of bicycle components, but a
dominate innovator in cycling technology as well as the fishing tackle
industry, and one of the highest volume consumer-products cold-forging
companies in the world. This book is extremely well done, including
tasteful photos, top quality printing and overall layout and editing. The
old Japanese b/w photos are printed in brown duotones, a nice effect for
?period? shots. The bicycle racing pages and the introductory pages
between major sections are full page color bleeds. Paper is heavy
gloss. If you love printing then you will especially appreciate the pages
done in flat-black, full-spread bleeds.
Looks like there are some really cool pics in that book. I did not know
they were doing disc brakes that long ago:
