Well, I would like to continue the fruitcake subject, which took a turn towards squealing mafac pads.
I found a few minutes between storms to try (for the first time ever) my Peugeot PR-10L that consumed so much of my time recently. I'll give a full update soon, after I get a few pictures back this afternoon. The short story though, is that the bike felt GREAT.
But the front Mafac Racer really squeals. The rear is fine, but the front is a bit too much. Toe in on one side looks about right, but there seems to be virtually none on the other side.
So, can the toe in be set differently on these brakes in any way? Would that help? Any other ideas?
On a pair of really squeaky modolo's, I took my low angle block plane and shaved off a mm of brake pad which completely cured them. I suspect that the improvement was because I exposed fresh pad, more than angle change. Is this typical?
Thanks
