SUPER CHAMPION OSGEAR LOVELY c1950 The Super Champion Osgear was the first
derailleur to be allowed in the Tour de France in 1937 after the regulations
on gears was relaxed and was the gear of choice of most road racers pre WWII
- in the Tour de France it was the only gear allowed apart from the Italian
Vittoria Margherita. Even in the immediate post WWII period most road racers
chose the Super Champion gear until the twin roller Simplex was introduced.
It gives a machine a very distinctive appearance with the tension arm below
the bottom bracket and the gear changing fork on the underside of the
chainstay.
This gear is in very good/excellent condition with only a little wear to
the striking fork and is complete with chain guide, spoke guard, outer
cable, lever and cable clip. The underside of the tensioning arm also has a
couple of nicks as can be seen in the photo. This gear whilst one of the
last to be produced is almost identical to the earlier models save for the
script on the tension arm. These gears are very rare and give a road racing
machine of the late 30s-early 50s a wonderful distinctive appearance. I can
supply a copy of instructions for setting up the Osgear and a suitable
freewheel at extra cost if the successful bidder wishes. $175.

Now for something completely different... FREEWHEEL CATALOGUES 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989 These are probably the English equivalent of the Cyclopedia catalogues except that they are glossy and contain photographs rather line drawings. They are absolutely packed full of information including component weights etc and contain all the best equipment offered each year. The earliest issue is 64 A4 pages whilst the 89 issue had grown to overr 225 pages. These are a mine of information and really replaced the earlier Holdsworthy Aids booklets as a guide to the Kit. $12 a catalogue or $95 for the nine - be warned shipping will be a little expensive for the whole set as they weigh nearly 4kg! But I can ship them printed paper rate and surface mail which saves money. They are worth waiting for!
