I just received the Bruce Gordon I bought recently.

It is quite a pip but needs some components restored to be more "original" as there have been obvious changes over the years.

The bike is a 1979. I thought the SR Laprade post odd on such a high zoot bike but it is dated 1980 so probably original when the bike was built up. What about the Dia-Compe Aero brake levers? Probably didn't become available until a few years after that I suppose. It has old logo Cinelli stem and bars and I thought the logo changed prior to 1980.

Promply put on a nice Brooks Pro from 1980. Bike is happier already. Bike needs an earlier rear derailleur, new toe clips and has to lose the pink straps!

The wheels are pretty wierd. Tied and soldered rear with a black anodized Mavic MA-40. The front wheel is radially spoked with bladed spokes and an unnamed clincher rim. Both are 27X11/4. Weird- 27" aero? Is my memory slipping?

The frame is pretty incredible. Long point lugs and a lot of extra hand work on the seat cluster and elsewhere. The rear der. hanger needs a little blacksmithing and Q tool work. It was purpose built for bar-con shifters.

The bike has Columbus tubing, Cinelli BB and some Campagnolo parts including a triple crank. This reminds me that at that time the framebuilders got good OEM pricing on these parts so there was a trend to shift to Columbus tubing on really top custom bikes. Some distribution scheme in Texas to centralize Italian parts. Anyone remember?
