To the US frames typically cost about $105 in a double skinned box but can be sent more cheaply about $70 (single skinned box and surface mail if required) All items are priced in $. Shipping will be extra charged at cost. Payment can be made in cash with dollars or by money order in Pounds sterling ($1.60 to 1 GBP). American Express Travellers cheques in $ are also fine. I can take PayPal but I have to charge 5% extra to cover what my bank charges me. Regards Hilary Stone, Bristol, England

RIVETTS TRICYCLE FRAME c1953-6 with detacheable HIGGINS TRICYCLE AXLE. 22.5in seat tube (centre to top). 22in top tube ctc). This is a very rare beast. Higgins were the premier manufacturer of trikes between 1947 and 1965 and in 1953 developed a differential gear rear axle capable of taking a multiple speed freewheel with derailleur or fixed sprocket driving to both rear wheels. Most of the differential axles were fitted to Higgins¹ own trike frames though they did offer a conversion kit for a standard bicycle frame and did offer axles to frame builders. Most of the ones they built were brazed-in place with an eccentric bottom bracket. A few were built with detacheable axles. This particular trike frame was built it is thought by Rivetts of Leytonstone, East London - Rivetts is still in existence today though now they only deal in motorcycles now. Back in the 40s and 50s they were also a thriving cycle shop. The fact that the axle is detacheable makes it of course very easy to ship. It is is fitted with Mafac cantilever braze-on brakes on the rear of the front forks and would normally have a conventional side-pull brake mounted in the normal manner. The frame is nicely made with a variant of the Nervex serie Legere lugs and a cast two plate style fork crown with round blades and was specifically built as a tricycle - it is not a converted bicycle frame. The 28in wide axle appears to be in fine condition with no excessive backlash though I have not inspected inside it. It has a mounting plate for a standard derailleur and is fitted with an 1980s freewheel at present. The chrome plating has however been lost from the differential casing. It comes with a pair of 40H rear hubs - I can get for the buyer at cost if required a replacement pair of hubs in alloy in any drilling to fit from George Longstaff. Differential axled trikes are great fun to ride especially in the snow when they can be drifted beautifully, I know, I have a 1960 Higgins myself with a diff. Unlike most trikes which are one wheel drive on the wrong side for driving on the right, one such as this with a diff is no different to ride on the right from on the left. Shipping I think will be about $130. Photos available. $575

FRANCESCO MOSER 19 1/2in (centre to top) FRAME 1980s frame dating from the 1980s. The paintwork is a bit scruffy and the chrome forks have a scrape on one side. But the frame and forks appear to be perfectly aligned. Top tube length is 20.25in centre to centre. The frame is very pretty - the lugs have a M cut in them. And the tube mitreing which can be seen through the bottom bracket shell is excellent. Rear dropout spacing is 126mm. $95

GB COUREUR 66 CENTRE-PULL BRAKESET from the early 1960s. These are the rarer type of Coureur 66 callipers with a single long spring rather than two small springs. The red coloured GB logo plates are not faded or scratched. Brakes of this type I were believe fitted to some Rene Herse bikes of the 60s. They are in especially nice crisp condition. They also come with the correct pair of brake levers - the lever blades are NOS but the GB logos on the levers both have one damaged side - these would normally be hidden by rubber hoods. $89

REG DOWN TUBE BOTTLE CAGE 1950s/60s chrome plated perforated strip bottle cage of the type favoured by many of the Italian and French stars in the Tour de France in the 1950s and 60s. It is in very good condition. $15

MAVIC MA40 40H 700C RIM Almost NOS - excellent - it has been used there are very faint marks on the braking surface but you have to look hard to see it has been used. $18

WOLBER/SUPER CHAMPION M59/58 40H RIM - an excellent grey anodised 40H 700C rim - one side has a light marking, the other side is unmarked. $12

BOOKS AND CATALOGUES THE CYCLING HANDBOOK by Lon Pullen 1st edition 1950 175 pages These are quite simply the best guides to to the kit and how it was used in the 1950s. There are three editions of this book which are all fairly different. It contains masses of information on hub gears, Cyclo, Benelux, Huret, Simplex and even the Campagnolo Corsa. Also included is a spec list of handlebar shapes and their dimensions and many other fasinating bits on contemporary frames and kit. Lon Pullen had a good knowledge of the continental scene and this is reflected in this book. This copy has had its front cover and front inside end papers scribbled on and there are a few dirty marks on some of the pages but this does not detract from the great information it contains. So just $18
