If I may add one little detail to Brian's retelling of the tale...
It was, I thought, a significant detail. Peter did say that before he walked into Masi's shop, he had consulted with Cinelli and, I believe, Campagnolo. He told them, quote "I may be rather unpleasant..."
To which the folks at Cinelli and Campagnolo apparently replied "...that's ok with us..."
Gives a bit more insight into Masi's reputation inside Italy, seems to me, at least among some of his suppliers..
It does seem--at the risk of being indiscreet--that Faliero was not the straightest arrow that ever left the quiver..
