I have two sets of steel campy pedals. One set lived in santa cruz for many years, and was covered with rush. After an hour on the dremel tool, it's shiny but it is peppered with rust perforation spots and i can just imagine that the rust will return within three months.
I took this pedal to a local chrome shop. They said that because the body is aluminum (unanodized, which i found out after putting it in the dishwasher - hey, I trust the seals on campy stuff!) - anyway, they said that just stripping the chrome would seriously damage the aluminum, since the stripping chemicals are acids that eat aluminum for breakfast lunch and dinner. Unfortunately, the steel cage is riveted to the aluminum body and so the two parts cannot be separated.
Is there any reasonable way to refinish the chrome on this pedal ?? Could the aluminum be sealed somehow (in silicone?) allowing the steel to be rechromed ?
Has anyone tried to do this ?
