Here is the story,
I was grilling some food at a friends house warming party. I noticed a bike leaning against his shed. It looked like a total junker from a distance, (brake cables were full length housing with cheap plastic holders, plus tape all over the frame..). Once I got a closer look it became apparent that it was not a huffy (I have never seen a huffy with campy parts). The friend gave me the bike (he was glad to get the junk out of his back yard). I took the bike home, took it apart, cleaned it up. It is now a box of parts and a bare frame.
So I found myself at the classicrendezvous web site after a search for Mondia bike (the name on the frame).
Anyway, here are some details,
Mondia Special frame. Serial is 176687. Frame paint is pretty bad. Rust in several places. The rear end and mid seat tube are chrome. Rest of bike is silver, with red and black accents. Head tube lugs are chrome too (blue details around all the lugs). The frame measures 54 cm c-c. Frame weight is 4.35 pounds (might give an idea of what the tube set is as there are no stickers to indicate). Fork is all chrome (blue details around lugs).
Parts are as follows, campy nuovo record rear der (patent 73) campy strada cranks campy seatpost (26.4) unicanitor saddle (bad shape leather) steal shell phil wood hubs weinmann rims (odd concave shape) ttt record stem (has crack it bar bolt).
Is this bike worth the trouble to fix up? The frame would need to be repainted to look at all nice. Do people typically repaint this era of bike? It is too small for me (I ride a 61cm). It could be a nice guest bike.
What should I do with it? It was free to me.
