Quoth Jerry Moos:

"I tend to agree with the original point that Cinellis are overpriced compared to Paramounts. Certain bikes have "cachet". Just which ones seems to change over time, but Cinelli and Masi are "in" recently. I certainly like Masi and Cinelli, but haven't ever bought one, as there is always something equally interesting at a better price. One of the reasons I have a lot of French bikes is that they are a better value than most Italian bikes due to lacking "cachet", even though it is a French word. In 1973 I passed up a new Cinelli Super Corsa at $500 for a Windsor Pro at $365. Even in retrospec, I don't think that was a bad decision, as the $135 difference was a lot of money in 1973."

Cinellis have always been *in* in my experience, and probably always will be.

Masis have always been *in* too, esp. the italian frames, and the Carlsbad frames made before the cast lugs (there were only about 1200 Carlsbad frames made before the cast lugs came in).. there have never been that many prime Masis around. Most went somewhere else besides North America, and production was never that high, at least compared to things like a PX10.

The elegant aesthetics, and the plush ride of a Cinelli, are very attractive...and, at the risk of being provocative, short of a Herse or a Singer or some other top-flight custom french bike, french production bikes can't compare to a Cinelli for sheer beauty of the details. All the major french bikes I've seen are quite crude by comparison..

And Windsor used a heavier tube set than Cinelli did, the result being that Windsor's tend to feel "dead" to me, compared to a Super corsa.

And Windsor's from the early 70s really are just crude copies of the Super Corsa, not the same thing at all.

Before you dismiss them, buy a prime vintage Masi or Cinelli in your correct size, live with them awhile, and see what you think.
