Caution: Speculation ahead.
I remember Andy Muzi, the importer of these bikes, showing me a "Super End" circa 1985 and acting as thought it was the lastest thing from 3 Rensho. I specifically recall that he referred to these droputs as "macho, " which I found funny at the time. The went on and on about how these were better than just about any other bikes anywhere. He also mentioned laser cut lugs....
While my memory suggests that this is a few years newer than 1982, the top-of-downtube shifters and over the BB guides seem like features from an earlier date.
For more info, I'd call Yellow Jersey in Madison, WI. They used to (and may still) also operate Ariel Trading Company to import these bikes.
Cool bike, my size too. I always wanted one. Your's looks tired, but these are very sturdy bikes, and some fresh paint should set it right. I wouldn't say the same about most bikes with that much apparent use, but those were pretty hefty, as I recall.
