Someone mentioned today how great a Suntour VGT-Luxe was. Its 1972 companion, the $5.95 Spirt or $7.95 Compe-V had enormous range and works fine on my early Santana tandem with a triple and 140mm rear spacing. Gotta keep those pivots clean though but heck, you just pull off the spring and there you go.

mentioned using a NR front der. with a triple crank and without problems.
And, there were several posts on drilling an NR crank for triple yet, no
mention of compatible front der.

least one of which moved across four chainrings. The mods did more to move
the high gear point out further (relocaing the pivot points on the cage)
than anything else, but I do believe you can do this. Indeed, I'm pretty
sure that's what's on the stock 73 Paramount P-15 that's coming to me for
Thanksgiving.
