Subject: [CR]A mysterious braze-on

On a Gillott, I have a braze-on that I do not understand its function or purpose. On the underside of the downtube, located approximately three inches from the headtube and lying directly parallel with the two cable guides for barcons is a pointed pin-like braze-on. It is placed where you could sometimes find a clamp-on shifter knob. It does not, however, appear as it would be used as clamp-on knob. It is a pointed, almost pinpoint tip. It measures approximately a quarter of an inch.

Any ideas on what the braze-on function is? Because of its location, I would assume it's somehow related to the cable guides and cable stops (there is a cable guide and then a stop on both sides of the top tube), but I do not know what additional function it has.

Thank you.
