I've found the ends on some shifter cables are too wide for the seats in some shifters, maybe Retrofrictions are among the shifters where this happens. I just file away a bit of the shifter cable end with a flat file. The ends are lead or something else pretty soft, easy to file.

I have run out of "vintage" shift wires for my Simplex retrofriction shifters. The road style end plug on wires at my LBS are a third larger than Simplex shifters will accept. Have any of you encountered this problem or know a source for Simplex shift wires? I really don't want to ream out these shifters.
