In my never-to-be humble opinion, when you restore a piece of history, you take away some of that history. If you doubt me, watch an episode of the Antiques Roadshow! As an example, there is a Stradivarius (sp?) that has a scratch in it that was caused when Napoleon once played it while wearing spurs! Would anyone in their right mind repair THAT?
