Subject: [CR]A very nice bike week

Last Sunday's ride outside of D.C. was the start of a very nice bicycle week. You've read reports by Tom Roberson, Harvey Sachs, & Tom Adams; with pictures by Tom Adams & Ben Sanford (thanks for the hospitality). I finally got to met and ride with Sheldon Brown who's as droll and informative in person as he is on the web. The weather was superb and traffic was light. I didn't even hurt too much from my 10 week lay-off from riding.

Then early in the week, I received the last of the parts & a break in work I needed to finish up a new/old fixed gear. This morning I woke up early and after walking the dog, I brought it upstairs and wheeled it into the bedroom, saying "Happy anniversary!" (a month early, but it's riding weather), Janet was excited and surprised, so she got dressed and started riding it around the block, practicing starting and stopping. After a dozen laps, I got out my World Voyageur fixed, and we rode down to the rail-trail and ended up doing about 5 miles, stopping at the end for coffee and bagels. She was thrilled and kept exclaiming how different, but interesting riding a fixed gear is.

Classic content: It's our 20th anniversary, after we met while I was riding my Masi and she was riding her Holdsworth...
