Subject: [CR]Raleigh Record Ace On eBay

I do sincerely hope that the eBay seller's name , "Blackhawkac" , is not one of our C. R. List-members .

I know I've seen that name before . If it's your name , and you honestly believe the description you wrote , I hope you won't be too offended .

But . . .

http://ebay.com/<blah>

This auction will be over in just a few minutes . And the description is just not right .

The name , Raleigh Record Ace , is clearly painted on it . But still , by that year there was no special meaning to the name , "Record Ace" . That frame is just a plain old bottom of the line Record .

That tubing is NOT double butted chromium molybdenum tubing !! It's just ordinary old Raleigh "20-30 High Carbon" , plain gauge ( straight gauge ) , mild steel . It's what many folks on the C. R. List refer to as "gas-pipe" . Although personally , I think it is better than "gas-pipe" . Still , I know what they mean .

The decals are from 1973 or later , but . . . According to the 1973 Raleigh catalog , that color was not offered on the Raleigh Record , for 1973 . And , for 1973 , there was no Record Ace model .

And of course , the frame size is very close , but not quite accurate . The frame is 21.5 inches , center-to-top , which is pretty close to 55 cm . But why not just call it what it is , 21.5 inches ?

I have to say that I do admire the inexpensive , but practical , wheels and crankset .

And personally , I'd like to have that stem , that front brake , and those Bluemels fenders .

And I have to say , it makes an attractive photograph .

Put a decent saddle on it , and it would make a nice little grocery getter .

But ,

That price seems awfully steep to me .

Just one person's opinion .

Just had to vent my frustrations , since it's too late to do anything about the auction .
