The ride today, Sunday, Nov 2 out of viers Mill Park in the Maryland suburbs to Washington D.C. brought back memories of the late 1960s and 70s. This route has always been a good mid-winter short distance training ride, and the D.C. Rock Creek portion was where early spring training racing took place back then. And it was the site of the 1978 Junior Nationals in which greg Lomond was the winner. I tried to get a complete list of names but gave up at as more and more people showed up just at the start, there were about 30 participants including the curious we picked up along the way. Out-of -towners included Roy Drinkman, Tom Adams, Dan Artley, and Sheldon Brown. I want to thank Harvey Sachs with getting the ball rolling on this impromptu event, and furnishing a bike for sheldon Brown. Special thanks also to Ken Sanford who was gracious in providing his home as a post ride social gathering spot . . . . Hey, , I can't wait for the next one.
