Yes, the mighty competition did in fact come on at least some Gitane Tdf models. My brother bought one in 1973 just like the one Sarah has on ebay. Not the same color, his bike is a metallic copper color, but it had the Sugino crank right out of the box. His bike is a Tdf, but also called a "Sevice Course". It is all French thread and all other parts are French with an all Reynolds 531 frame, fork and stays. BTW $230.00 brand new in'73.
