This is easy to do, but hard to do "well". First - the absolute number of cogs has little to do with the ratios you select and what sort of grades you'll be able to climb. Assuming Campy derailleurs, the best you can hope for in the rear is a 28t, whether it's mounted on a 5, 6, or 7 speed freewheel.
Easiest approach is to use a 14-28 Suntour "ultra 6" freewheel which should thread right on to your existing hub, with no change to dishing, spacing, or anything else.
Next step is to go to a 126mm axle which will require you to replace your rear axle with a longer one (about 135mm if memory serves) and additional spacers on the freewheel side. Careful setup of the spacers will allow you to create adequate spacing with minimal wheel dish required. You will have to add dish to your wheel. You may need to have the rear dropouts on your frame spread as well. A 126mm OLD (overlocknut distance) will allow you to use most 6 speed freewheels and maybe even some 7s if you are lucky.
As for going to 130mm - don't do this with a Campy hub. At 130mm the rear axle bearings on the drive side are pretty far from the dropout and the axle becomes very easy to break. Additionally, you'll probably have to re-lace the rear wheel to accomdate the much greater dishing required. Not recommended for "classic" bikes.
If you need gears lower than you can get with a Campy 42-28, may I suggest that you consider a set of TA cranks which are period correct for most classic bikes and readily available ? While they would not look right on a Masi or Pogliaghi, they are an excellent solution that provides lower gears while keeping the vintage spirit intact.

I fear the purists will be horrified, but as part of a restoration project this winter on what appears to be an early 80s Colnago Super frame, I'm thinking about using a 7 speed freewheel. 1) How careful do I need to be about which Campy hubs I use? Can I simply use any 6 or 7 speed hub with a 126mm width?
2) Is it possible to re-build an older 120mm Campy Record hub using a wider axle and some spacers? Will the 6 or 7 speed freewheels go on? Or is there a difference in the freewheel threading as well as the axle?
3) Does a Campy Nuovo Record rear derailleur have sufficient travel range to handle a 7 speed freewheel? How about the Super Record rear derailleur?
4) Are there other issues of which I should be aware?

Nice rig, but there are a few problems.
For sure the ''PEDALS!'' are low end. Crankset I would think should have been # 93, this crankset looks to be a # 106 or other with # 105 rings?........................But the forks I question because I've never seen a PX10 of this vintage with forks without Reynolds 531 stickers. Instead it has a sticker that is normally found on a lower end model. Also I don't think the hubs are period correct. Black rims, gold would have looked a lot better.........................Just my nickles worth!
On German ebay a few very nice and period correct Peugeots sold for a sing and a song! Problem, they didn't want to ship out of the country. And there was a pink Mercier as well, decked out with Campagnolo, same deal with this puppy.

Thevenet won the Tour in '75 & '77. I have a team picture from '75 and it does appear the cranksets were Stronglight 93's. In '76 however, it is clear the bcd is not 122 and the cranks do appear to be 105's with drilled chainrings.
That eBay Peugeot appears to have a Stronglight 99 crankset. The bcd is not 144!!

5. Gold lable Normandy Luxe Competition's , two fronts, 36ø, both look near new but have been laced , lable is good on one and so-so on the other, no skewers, both for $44 delivered.
These all sat in a dry warehouse for over 20 years, new grease would be prudent.

I have seen a Peugeot that is black with chrome fork ends but unchromed rear & it was all Reynolds 531 frame & forks It had an ideale 2001 saddle probably from 1979. Nice bike.

For sure the ''PEDALS!'' are low end. Crankset I would think should have been # 93, this crankset looks to be a # 106 or other with # 105 rings?........................But the forks I question because I've never seen a PX10 of this vintage with forks without Reynolds 531 stickers. Instead it has a sticker that is normally found on a lower end model. Also I don't think the hubs are period correct. Black rims, gold would have looked a lot better.........................Just my nickles worth!
On German ebay a few very nice and period correct Peugeots sold for a sing and a song! Problem, they didn't want to ship out of the country. And there was a pink Mercier as well, decked out with Campagnolo, same deal with this puppy.
