This is a wonderful idea and it really sparks the imagination... how cool it would be to have some of the greats to chat with. Sadly, I don't see much chance of it. Aren't most of these guys preoccupied with looking ahead not back, developing that next new thing to debut at the bike shows? I could not in my wildest dreams imagine guys from DeRosa or Pinarello or Colnago who spend their days discussing the design of next year's aluminum/carbon/Ti frame stopping by here in their spare time to chat about the Viscount death fork...

The good news is, when a question of sufficient importance comes up we are fortunate to have folks on the list who will contact a Cinelli or a DeRosa and kindly translate their reply for us. Though it would be nice having these guys here on a regular basis, just hearing from them occasionally like this is a thrill for me.

I think it is a shame that guys like Pacenti who worked day jobs at space-age bike companies while also nurturing a love of vintage bikes are such a minority. But we should be glad for those few there are, and see to it that they're always welcome.
