Subject: [CR]Campagnolo box timeline attempt...

A recent auction on a Campagnolo headset in a dark blue box prompted the following post to me from John Barron about dates for the different packaging:

I think that for the most part, the dark blue box was the earliest box used for many of their parts- cambio corsa set, pedals, hubs, headsets, etc. I have seen these boxes for all of these parts, and maybe some others. The hiccup here is the VERY early box that Pergolizzi has that is a yellowed white with blue letters. For all we know, a distributor had boxes made up for the Campy parts they sold... There's also the green Campy HS box on HI Campy's site...

Anyway, dark blue with gold lettering was first from, I suppose the early 50's, (1950?, 1951?) to perhaps the late 50's, (1958?, 1959?). There were obviously a lot of variations such as the darker blue cottered BB box that has world champ stripes on it. You know best when that was introduced... There were some HS boxes that were either light blue with darker blue lettering, or gray with the same lettering from about 1960 until perhaps the late 60's. At that point It seems like the more modern style of Record boxes came around which were basically pale yellow/tan with world champ stripes. If the Record brake calipers were 1968, or 1969, then perhaps these boxes were intro'd at that time, except we have examples of the earliest Nuovo Record rear der boxes from 1966, 1967, 1968 that had them, so I guess that's a better measure. As you know, these boxes started with an uncoated finish, and then moved to the coated stock in about 1969 I think.

My best and only reference is from what I have, and have seen, and while I've seen a lot, there's others who have seen more, or at least have seen different stuff. We need to rely on faith a bit that the correct parts were in the correct box... ========================================================================

Does anyone else out there on the CR list have any idea of the dates and changes to the Campagnolo packaging?
