All my bikes are _maximum_ riders, which means they get used for weekend rides and commutes, and so i would never cut off reflectors if they could not be reinstalled. I've had just too many accidents to take a chance with another accident.
Pedal reflectors are probably the #2 or #3 illuminating device on a bicycle at night, after the headlight (which, according to "effective cycling", is essential to give cars "lead time" to avoid hitting you.) Pedals are supposedly more important than wheel reflectors.
