Subject: [CR]Andrea Cinelli response to Cinetica Giotto auction

Since it was outed to the list, I asked Andrea Cinelli to give a comment about the Cinetica Giotto bike up for sale on ebay. Contrary to what Dirk had thought, the photos are real and not catalog reprints. It would therefore appear that the bike truly is in the hands of the seller and that he went to some trouble to get professional quality photos for his auction.

The main gist of Andrea's answer is as follows. I have included both the Italian original and my own translation:

When I created my new company (Cinetica) in 1989, I wanted to build a new monocoque carbon frame and I gave it the name Giotto for the simple reason that I admire the Tuscan painter and architect and it recalls an anecdote regarding the painter that has been passed down through the years:

In a dispute with other painters as to who was the best, it is said that Giotto took a sheet of paper, and drew a circle, that turned out to be perfect, and Tuscan artists and the common people in Tuscany are now accustomed to say:

"ma è veramente perfetto ! COME LA "O" DI GIOTTO ! "

It is truly perfect! Like the "O" of Giotto!.

In fact, the Giotto frame, while it does not have the "O" shape, but is oval, does not have the seattube that joins the saddle to the BB. I will not go into the whole story of the development and reason of the frame (it is a long story - one day perhaps, when you come to Italy, when we are sitting in front of a Cappuccino at the bar.)
