Since he's selling it for a customer its a business relationship. He has an obligation, a fiduciary duty, to achieve the highest price practicable for his client. While it would be nice to give his friends 'first shot,' it might not be ethical. Its a different situation from an acquaintance asking "hey, know anybody that might like this bike?" Of course, if he runs the options by the owner and gets the okay to sell it here rather than auction it, then the rules change.
