As Jan has pointed out, adding dye provides a huge color palette to draw upon. I believe that Aldo is our chief dyeing alchemist on the CR list. I have added powdered RIT dye to clear Bullseye shellac to get a remarkably nice scarlet color over red tressostar tape.
Note that each coat of clear shellac progressively darkens the color.
