Sorry, but there is absolutely no truth to this. Although this myth has been around since Super Record rings were introduced, there is neither any empirical evidence that this is true, nor any reason why it should be true.

Any deflection you see in chainrings is from flexing of the seat tube between the front derailleur and the BB shell, and flexing of the bottom bracket axle. There are no lateral forces on chainrings, except during shifts.
