Hi all, I will try and name all brakes and make some comments of my use of them over the years. As far as I am aware all Modolo brakes have the q/r at the top and use the bottom bolt solely for cable attaching. This is by no means a bible but a good guide, please feel free to add comments.......regards wayne davidson Invers NZ...........
Modolo brakes can also be seen with Mavic on them, I have no info on these except they do turn up on eBay.
Speedy and upwards seen in the following colours:- Silver Black White Grey Brown Gold Blue Red Flash and below only seen polished.
Rubber blocks are good, but the sinterized blocks are better in the wet, but rim wear will suffer as a result, but safety must prevail.
Lever hoods seen in both non anotomic #920 and anotomic #919, came boxed and in the following colours, black, gum, grey & white. Have seen clear, yellow & pink, suspect aftermarket.
The better brakesets have cablesets that have a internal sleeve made of graphite nylon.
Speedy and above seen mostly boxed and come complete with tools, cables, frame decal &booklet. Come with both nutted and recessed attachment. Come with allen headed mounting bolts & wire guides on the shoes. Come in both short & normal reach.
Model name stamped on the front caliper arm, both Equipe, Prestige & Master Pro have model name tampo printed on front arm.
Corsa. Never seen a set in the flesh to comment on.
Sporting. Quite a cheap brake, at least alloy in caliper arms.
America. I am sure this was the model of brake fitted to low end Italian bike such as Bianchi etc.
Flash. A good basic brakeset, let down by their easily broken plastic q/r fitting, I did get some free replacements many years ago from Modolo. Shoes use nutted hardware.
Speedy. Early models came with rubber blacks and rounded section arms, never ones were sinterized blocks and 3 section arms, quite close in quality to Campagnolo overall, in some areas even better. These braksets suffer from the use of plastic washers between the caliper arms, a quick improvement is to replace with steel washers.
Equipe. Never seen a set in the flesh to comment on.
International. Real early version of Professional, better than Campagnolo, levers have cutouts and drilled. Serial # stamped on each caliper.
Professional. Same as above.
Prestige. Never seen a set in the flesh to comment on.
Master pro. I have a set myself on my Rigi, came with sinterized blocks and coloured a semi gloss brown colour, I am sure these were also done in white. The brakset has Ti hardware.
Kronos. A nice aero style centrepull that apparently could not pull a sailor off you sister, nice to look at and light to boot, use there own brake blocks, can be seen on eBay at various prices depending on condtion. The calipers can suffer from cracks and if used need to be checked often.
Orion. Aero levers only, same as Kronos but in blue grey colour. Cheaper replacement for Kronos if you can handle the colour difference, these regulay turn up on eBay and a reasonable price. These came boxed with mounting hardwere, tools and cables.
ALX90. Never seen a set in the flesh to comment on.
SLX90. Calipers have a canted top cable anchorage point as per Galli KL and Campagnolo monoplaner brakes. Available in a Ti version as well. Aero style caliper and normal style brake lever.
MACH 1. Aero style brakeset. Pivot bolt allen headed. Shoe/block & guide 1 piece moulded.
MACH 2. Aero style brakeset. Never seen a set in the flesh to comment on.
MACH 3. Aero style brakeset. Both bolts allen headed. Canted design as per ALX/SLX versions.
